Can you purchase a vehicle when you don't have a driver's license and have it registered in someone else's name & have insurance in their name so that you can have them drive you to the store & doctors? |

the way it works is anyone can buy a car but it must be registered and insured in the name of the driver. not a good idea. as the owner your liable as well for liability in accidents. that goes back to the old days when poor chauffers drove the rich around . |

So why did they tell us my son couldn't have the title in his name because he had no license. He bought a truck with insurance money but had to put it in my name. We are just worried because if someone sues me that they will take his truck even though it's not really mine. |

There has to be a way around that. Corporations own vehicles yet the corporation doesn't have a driver's license. And if you have a license but lose it or fail to renew it, you still own your car and you can renew the registration. |

If you don't have a DL you can have the title in your name only to own the vehicle (and essentially let it sit). If the vehicle is to be driven it has to be registered in the name of the person who is legally insured, or it can be jointly owned. You should have been able to get the title in both yours and your son's name, because only one person needs to be insured to get it registered. |

its really not the way to do this. you generally need the title in your name to register a car and proof of insurance. you more than likely will not get insurance with no license. the right way is buy them the car and file yourself as a lien holder assuming there is no loan involved. |

I brought my car with no license and I have insurance and everything in my name. Now to purchase off of a lot I'm going to need someone to put it in there name so that we can take it off the lot. |

You can't register your car in PA if you don't have a current PA driver's license and you can't get a PA driver's license without proof of citizenship (or legal status) and state residence. You used to be able to but the current scheme is to prevent illegal aliens from buying and registering a car. Maybe that will change under Gov. Wolf? |

if you lie and do get a license but don't actually use pa as a primary it is insurance fraud too . pa has much lower minimum requirements for insurance then say new york does . so as a pa resident federal law requires the insurer and state to up your coverage at their expense to whatever the state mins are you drive through . needless to say the fact they have to cover you and pa is not an actual primary does not make them to happy so they are always on the look for signs of fraud like this . |
