Sigma eighteen-50mm F2.8 EX DC
Sep 21, 2006
The zuiko xiv-54mm f2.eight-3.five is an awesome sealed lens which i've considered but haven't bought because I personally don't encounter it as a significantly enough upgrade from the kit lens. Even after trying it out.
I've e'er known well-nigh this comparable lens from sigma, but giddy enough I didn't realize that it was a consistent F2.8 across the whole range. This for me would about definately be a worthy enough upgrade compared to the kit lens in my eyes so i'm but wondering if in that location are any here that have it.
Here's a review on that lens for aps-c mounts:
http://www.shuttertalk.com/manufactures/sigma1850ex/index.php
The very mild softness at max aperture is acceptable and doesn't bother me as it'due south easily fixed in pp
From what I see lenses on 4/3 or aps-c mounts seem to have the same results which is why I posted the in a higher place link.
I'm actually really because and probably will purchase the 30mm f1.iv and take made up my mind on information technology's qaulity, which I recollect is fantabulous only thought i'd at to the lowest degree see what people think of the 18-50f2.viii, sigma haters need not chime in.

Note, in that location are two 18-50mm lenses from Sigma. The one that has been bachelor for some time is a f/three.5-5.6 lens. The constant f/2.8 lens has been announced as role of the 5 new Sigma 4/3rds lenses, just I don't know if it is shipping still (if it is, it probably is merely in Nippon correct at present).

Wide angle?
In respond to esco • Sep 21, 2006
18-50mm might be a practiced idea on APS-C, but on Fourthirds, information technology's lacking in wide angle.
Maybe it'd be a good thought for Olympus to brand a lens that would fit betwixt the xiv-54mm f/2.8-3.5 and the 14-35mm f/2. I'd consider such a lens.

I concord. But I see this lens of great intrest to me as a good low-lite walkaround zoomer. The constant f2.eight aperature with decent sharpness is what'south really intruiging me hither

Sharp in the center
In reply to esco • Sep 21, 2006
merely soft around the edges. At least on a Canon 1.6 crop. The Zuiko is sharp border to border.

Something I was worried virtually though from the review I posted:
"Past experience shows that the 17-35mm Sigma exhibited some baloney and softness around the edges, even on a camera with an APS-C size sensor and resultant crop factor. Information technology was expert therefore, to find the 18-50mm f/2.viii lens reasonably sharp along the edges and corners when stopped downwards, with only moderate baloney at the wider-angle settings. Edge baloney was barely evident at full zoom"
Seems like co-ordinate to that review(and you tin view the samples yourself) that it isn't much of a problem with this lens which is reviewed on a canon merely even then, with the zuiko afterward you leave it'south min 14mm range you don't even take the option of f2.8, this is my principal interest the constant f2.8 aperature that y'all have through the whole range.
